100 Laps!!!

Rich Bryant | August 8, 2010

Last year I managed on one day to get in an 80-lap day. After that accomplishment I felt pretty good, however the feeling of exhilaration extended into my sleep that night, and I got a sense that I had really overdone it. So, in the days that followed I throttled back to more typical daily lap counts of 40-60.

At the beginning if this summer, however, that little devil that sits on my shoulder started whispering in my ear that I was up to doing a 100-lap day.

I’ve been ramping up my swimming workout a little gradually this season, and have made some nice changes as well.

Yesterday I was finally able to return to the pool and started off with an easy 20 laps and a little fin time.

The Challenges of the Season

Rich Bryant | December 10, 2009

Previously I have made note of a decided decrease in the temperature at the pool, and I must report that this is a trend that has continued in recent weeks. However, through a graduated program of acclimation I have begun to restore my daily pool workout to some semblance of it’s former summertime glory.

Dude, where’s my Tropical Paradise?!

Having recently returned from a 10-day swing from Tampa up through Florida and the state of Alabama into Tennessee, I was more than amazed at the change in climate along the way. Gone were the long, warm, bright and sunny skies of Central Florida – replaced by brief days with nightly blasts of air that, to this Tampan, can only be described as ‘Arctic’.

This week I’ve added a new tool to my swimming workout – the humble abacus.

I Never did Find that Demon

Rich Bryant | July 13, 2009

About 10 days ago I had set for myself the goal of getting in 80 laps at the pool last weekend, and yesterday turned out to be that day. Achieving that goal was a bit of struggle. After the first 15 laps I was already feeling “out of the zone”, and starting to rationalize postponing until the following weekend.

Quantum Leap!

Wednesday afternoon I managed to get all my work completed a little early, so I made it to the pool around 4pm. My goal was to get in what is for me a heavy workout, which was 60 laps plus some good time working with the my ScubaPro rocket fins.

The Demon out at 80!

Friday and Sunday were both maximum, 60-lap days in the pool. Friday I ended with a sense of exhiliration, but Sunday was more of a “forced march”.

My Swimming Workout Regime

Rich Bryant | June 25, 2009

It took me a couple of months for my daily swimming workout to assume some structure that I found to be helpful, so I thougth I would share that here for anyone who may be interest in starting a similar program.
